Wendy Ewart obtained her BSc at the University of Southampton and PhD in Physiology at the University of Bristol, UK. She was on the academic staff of London University (Queen Mary University of London) until 1991 when she joined the Wellcome Trust as a programme manager for neuroscience and mental health. She subsequently moved to the Trust’s international department to head the Population Studies Programme and in 2001 she led the development of this programme as a new £65 million Trust initiative to support research on the ‘Health Consequences of Population Change’. She also led the strategic group which launched the Trust’s £25 million funding initiative to support ‘Animal Health in the Developing World’. From 1995-2002 she was also a Non Executive Director on the Board of the Royal Surrey County Hospital, an NHS acute hospital, latterly serving as Chair. Wendy was appointed to Imperial College London in 2003 as Head of Research Strategy for the Faculty of Medicine. |
