The HDSS was established in 2009 under the Arba Minch Demographic and Health Development Programme and became a member of INDEPTH in 2015. Besides routine surveillance data collection activities, other major activities include Adverse Events Following Immunisation after administration of 10-valent Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine (PCV10) and the Meningococcal Carriage Study – Impact of meningococcal conjugate vaccines on serogroup A transmission in Ethiopia. The HDSS also gets financial and technical support from Ethiopian Public Health Association and CDC. Future plans include morbidity surveillance and surveillance of chronic disease risk factors using WHO Step Model.
