Chókwè, formerly known as Vila Trigo de Morais, is a rural town and capital of Chókwè District, Gaza province in southern Mozambique. It is located about 230 km north of the capital city of Maputo. The HDSS was established in 2010 to continuously monitor all demographic and selected health events of the population of Chókwè district. Currently, it covers a population of 99,834.
