All instruments to be used in the DSS have to be translated and back translated into the local or official language of the study area. This will help to ensure the meaning of each and every question is clear. A group or team of people who are fluent in both the local and the original language of the instruments will be required to do this. After translation, the tools can be used for training the field team where further modifications can be introduced. Pre-testing of the instruments in the field during training should follow this process. Further modifications of the instruments may be required after the pretest.
